How do Placements Work?

As part of our Transpersonal Arts in Therapy Qualification (City and Guilds level 7 and BACP Accredited), students are required to undertake placements as part of their training.

For Full Time students these will commence during their second year and continue during their third year.

For Modular students placements are undertaken during their third and fourth years.

How to find a Placement…

We maintain good relationships with a number of placement providers in different locations with varying client groups and assist our students with finding placements. Students are also encouraged to make new contacts or explore particular interests.

The Tobias Placement Team works with students assisting with placement documentation and assessment.

Completion of the training is contingent upon the successful fulfilment of all placement requirements. The placement experience and corresponding documentation are essential components of the assessment process for the final award.

What is the role of the Placement Team?

The Placement Team will assist the student in obtaining suitable placement opportunities and liaise between the student and the placement manager for the duration of the placement.

The Placement Team are the first point of contact should you require support or have concerns about any aspect of your placement.

Placement Hours

How long do I have to complete my placement hours once the two year taught component is finished?

Students must complete their placement hours within two years of completing the taught element of the training.

Under certain conditions, extra time due to exceptional circumstances can be applied for, however, students will need to complete within 6 academic years. All extensions of time must follow the Tobias Extension policy.

What About Placement Supervision?

We work with a large number of therapy and counselling services and local charities to provide Placement opportunities for our students. All placement hours require supervision.

Within the training we offer some group supervision but we do not provide regular ongoing individual supervision.  Many of our Placements offer internal supervision as part of the placement experience. Supervision arrangements are negotiated at the start of placement and could incur an additional cost depending on the Placement.
