  1. Describe how Therapeutic Arts can be beneficial for older people.
  2. How does art or being creative make you feel and how has it benefitted you in the past.
    (50 – 150 words)
  3. Create an image of your life sense using watercolour or pastels

Create a form in clay that denotes tiredness and exhaustion.

In your learning groups either by zoom or whatsapp discuss the following:

Observing Sculpture – sense of life

what does this form need to gain more strength and vitality. Change the form.
Takes pictures of the form before and after.

Tomorrow you need

Chalk pastels / paper  (for both sessions) & clay for assignment

A sour drink (lemon juice) and a sweet drink (honey)

Choose something either from the list or another living object.

Tree, Bird, Cat, Dog, Dolphin, Horse, Butterfly, Bee.

Record your narrative via your phone or computer (do it in one take).

Listen to the recording and create a form in response to your narrative in clay or play dough (see play dough recipe).
We will share your forms and narrative in Reflection Space on Wednesday.

When you are finished, add a photo of your clay form above and type up your narrative from your recording. Resist the urge to correct it. The focus is on the enlivened imagination and not perfecting grammar or use of language.

You can also just submit an image and upload your text document with your narrative.

1. In your learning groups (Whatsapp) discuss your taste painting. Following the instructions on the observation of taste sheet.

2. Share experiences of  warm encounters and cool encounters

Tomorrow you need

A natural object that has a pattern/gesture – e.g. shell, veg (mushrooms / red cabbage) or fruit (kiwi / orange).
Media: chalk pastels and/or colour pencils

Black paper / Chalk Pastels, an object to ‘upcycle’ or ‘repurpose’

Some leaves and a white wax candle. The white candle needs to be smooth and cut to approx. 5cm.

1. Go for a walk with your notepad, stop and listen carefully. Choose 4 or 5 sounds and characterise them.
2. Share your painting with the person allocated in Maria’s chat (whatsapp) observe the photo that you receive and replicate it. Not due tomorrow.

Tomorrows resources for the second session are also in your boxes. It would be useful to have them handy.

Friday 27th November

The great meet-up! Between our sessions tomorrow we are going to attempt to gather everyone together. We are very excited about this!
During this session we shall make breakup up rooms and pair you up with someone from the other group for a few minutes.

1. Choose a piece of music from any genres. (i.e. classical / jazz)
2. Media – white wax crayon or a white candle and large piece of paper or roll of lining paper.
Process:
1. listen to the music
2. Draw using your non-dominant hand to the music or in response to the music you’ve just listened to
3. Listen to music again and use colour chalk pastel or watercolours in response to the music.
(if you have used wet-on-wet technique before, you can use it in this exercise)
4. Play the music again while observing your image of gestures and mood and note any key words or feelings that come up.

Upload your picture of your upcycled item into your folder by the 20 December 2020 with a short paragraph on your ‘Sense of Purpose’ and ‘Creative Improvisation’ reflections (approximately 300 words).  Michelle will provide feedback on the 22 February 2021.

Dates and Deadlines

Module timings:

The July dates are set as 12-23 July 2021 – Monday to Friday from 9:30am-5pm.  Information on accommodation and other practical matters will follow in the new year.

Module 3,5,7 will be taught on consecutive Mondays and Tuesdays in September, October, November, February, March and May. Dates for Module 3 to be published February 2021.

 

Reading recommendations:

The handouts that you are given by tutors is normally what the tutors require that you read. Recommended reading is additional information that you can read at your leisure if you have a particular interest in the theme or want to know more.

 

Payment Plan for Modules:

For July 2021-June 2022 payments will need to be made as follows:

01 July 2021:    £1537.50

1 September 2021:  £750.00

1 February 2022:  £735.50

You will be invoiced prior to each due date.
