2025 continues to be a time of change and new beginnings!
As the seasons shift, we find ourselves at a significant crossroads in the life of our school. Last term marked a poignant transition as we bid farewell to Gill David, our esteemed head for the past 33 years. Her legacy has been as steadfast as the iconic Tobias oak, which now sheds its last layer of bark, becoming a home to a new community of creatures as it gradually returns to the earth. I have witnessed a woodpecker drilling into its trunk, blue tits fluttering nearby, and squirrels frolicking about, reminding us that nature, like our community, is in a constant state of transformation.
In this liminal space of change, there has been both anxiety and excitement. We welcomed Asta, our new staff member, and I stepped in to the role of Head of School and together with Sarah and Helena, we embraced this new journey. With a spirit of support and togetherness, we felt ready to navigate these uncharted waters.
In September, we welcomed our new first-year cohort, bursting with enthusiasm and eagerness to join our vibrant community. Our seasoned second-year students extended a warm welcome, setting the tone for a collaborative and inclusive year ahead. We began the term by revisiting the rich tapestry of the Tobias story, celebrating new beginnings by gathering apples from our abundant orchards. This shared experience culminated in a delightful feast of deconstructed apple crumble topped with oat cream—a testament to the nourishment we find in community.
Our Oak cohort continues online and we look forward to their visit in the Spring of 2025. It has been wonderful to receive their nature rhythm essays this term, serving as reassuring reminders of the inherent wisdom in nature if we continue to observe.
Gill has remained a guiding presence, frequently visiting us and sharing her laughter, which continues to resonate throughout the building. Her support is a comforting reminder that while we may be entering a new era, the spirit of Tobias endures.
After months of submitting paperwork and assessment we are thrilled to finally be able to announce that our level 7 training has been awarded accreditation from the British Association of Counsellors and Pyschotherapists (BACP). This is an important stamp of approval that gives our students even more opportunities in their future careers.
In addition I am pleased to confirm that Tobias is now an active member in the Goetheanum Section for Inclusive Social Development International Training Circle.
As we look ahead, let us embrace this season of change with open hearts and minds. Together, we will forge new paths, cultivate connections, and nurture the growth of our creative and healing community.
